Art that would have been better as advertising. Of course, it probably will be soon.

An artist called iri5 has made some jolly interesting portraits by pulling the tape out of old audio cassettes and arranging it to look like various musicians. I’m not sure I’d pay a lot for it as fine art, but it’s a brilliant ad for a vintage music store waiting to happen. Exactly the sort of thing that wins wheelbarrows full of awards at Cannes and the One Show every year. Let’s see how long it takes a trophy-hungry creative team to “adapt” the visual treatment to their needs.

You can see other work iri5 does here. The way she chops up and recombines everyday objects into art is definitely worth a look.
